AVENTURA, Fla. – Aug. 31st, 2021: The Low Vision Shop is launching its second store at 20900 NE 30th Avenue, suite 200, Aventura, Florida, 33180 on September 1, 2021 to serve the South Florida sight-loss community with next-generation devices that enhance vision, improve quality of life, and increase independence. Centrally located between Fort Lauderdale and Miami, The Low Vision Shop in Aventura welcomes guests Monday through Thursday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. by private appointment only so that our trained professional staff can focus on guiding you to the best solutions for your sight-loss condition. Private appointments can be booked here.

America’s Low Vision Destination
Known as “America’s Low Vision Destination,” The Low Vision Shop debuted in 2019 as an in-house store, an online retailer with broad outreach to individuals, and a hub for nonprofits, businesses, and government agencies to serve those who are blind or living with low vision at every stage of their sight-loss journey. Like the Baltimore shop, the Aventura location will offer an extensive collection of low vision aids, including magnifiers, absorptive filters, accessible smart phones, and mobility cane solutions, as well as game-changing wearable technology, all curated by a team of specialists with decades of experience in the low vision field.

“What differentiates us from other low vision retail stores and distributors is our collaboration with researchers and entrepreneurs to bring low vision innovations to market as quickly as possible,” said Bari Azman, founding partner of The Low Vision Shop. “For example, we’re the North American master distributor of the Omnia Omni-Sense White Cane Tip, which uses Omnia’s patented omni-wheel technology to enable fluid, 360-degree movement of the rolling tip, resulting in less wrist fatigue and better auditory and sensory feedback than you experience with a conventional white cane tip.”

Growing the Sight-Loss Community
Beyond developing retail showrooms where people can explore vision aids safely and comfortably, Azman is passionate about building a supportive community so that nobody has to face vision loss alone. To that end, both locations currently offer virtual events including product demos; weekly poetry readings with Dave Steele, known as the Blind Poet; and a monthly sight-loss support group led by certified rehabilitation counselor Diane Ducharme.

Azman also supports, mentors, and champions individuals and organizations that improve the everyday life of those with sight loss. “I can’t wait to welcome visitors to the Aventura location, share our expertise, and creatively engage with the sight-loss community of South Florida,” said Azman.

To kick off the Aventura store launch, The Low Vision Shop commissioned an original illustration (below) showing individuals with sight loss enjoying a scenic South Florida beachwalk. This artwork is one in a series of drawings developed by The Low Vision Shop and executed by artist Dena Ackerman to challenge society’s preconceived notions about the limitations of living with sight loss and normalize the use of assistive technology by those with low vision and blindness to function independently.
